Pastor Mohammed Wario Roba
Mohammed Roba My name is Mohammed Wario Roba, I was born in Ethiopia and my family moved to Kenya in my early childhood when war broke out in Ethiopia. I was abandoned to the streets of Nairobi by my family because of my faith in Christianity and lived and survived in the streets and slums of Nairobi. While in the streets I learnt art and designing in, wood, paper, paint and metal, for survival. My family were committed Muslims and my father was a sheikh. After I was rescued from the streets of Nairobi by the late Fr. Mario I started making furniture and worked in building construction sites. This led to evangelizing to to my coworkers and landed me an evangelizing job in different churches. I spent most of my quality time doing bible story reading with the street children and the abandoned and rejected community. I have been serving the community in different levels helping the children, the youth, people with disabilities, and those who have been released from prison to learn about art and craft through the church that I pastured, and the Boran Education Children’s Home & Rehabilitation Center. When the local government and the religion leaders started persecuting and harassing us because my belief we had no choice but to flee the country. In 2000, in Nairobi, I was featured at Yaya Center in Nairobi at the Art Children’s Exhibition for non-profit organizations, “The other side of the Street” with the attorney General of Kenya Mr. Amos Wako while I presented to him the constitution for the street and handicapped children. My wife and I were also featured by KTN in the program “What it Takes” talking about the center and the work that we do with the children. The same year, “Turning Point” recognized our organization for a self sacrifice and commitment that we had put to the children’s center that realized the success of the center. Because of the continued persecution that led to the loss my family, and the loss of Boran Community members through the persecution of the Boran Baptist Church in 1992, we fled the country in 2001 and we have since started a ministry to train churches members, people from prison in art and craft and evangelize through bible story telling. |
